13/08/21 : AED (automated external defibrillator) at Stocks Inn The Stocks has installed an AED at its rear entrance. It is readily visible: see photos. The cabinet is opened with its keypad, the code for which is obtained from the 999 emergency ambulance service if it deems its use to be appropriate: a casualty has sustained a cardio-respiratory arrest. The location descriptor is ECO493. This is on the cabinet but is not easy to read
The funds for the defibrillator were raised at the pub by Drex and Sally Sibley, the managers, and by their staff and customers through competitions and generous donations. It is in memory of Carl Cavanagh, a fireman at Heathrow Airport and a close friend of Drex, who died suddenly while competing in a triathlon in Majorca - leaving behind his wife and three young children.
13/08/21 : BLS (Basic Life Support) Furzehill residents were canvassed early in 2020 for their interest in attending a BLS course, but with only one positive response. It teaches the actions to take, after or while calling for an ambulance, to sustain a casualty's life - including how to use an AED if available and appropriate. The availability of an AED has limited value without some confidence in BLS. So, if you would like to attend a BLS course locally, let us know via the contact page. Once we gain sufficient interest, we'll make arrangements.
13/03/21 : Theft of tripod ladder from During Wednesday night (10 - 11 March) a ten foot tripod ladder was stolen from a van in Dogdean. It was locked by two clamps to roof bars. As it is ten foot long and splayed at the bottom, it is unlikely to fit inside a vehicle. Any vehicle carrying this in the dead of night would stand out.
If you have CCTV could you please check any overnight footage and let our Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, Keith Baker, know the outcome. His email address is: keith.furzehill@gmail.com
30/10/20 : Temporary closure of lower third of Furzehill Road Dorset Council has issued a notice dated 22/10/20 to advise that this section of road will be closed completely to traffic from 10 November for between two and five days.
30/10/20 : Reductions in speed limits The recent Traffic Regulation Order covering sections of Cranborne Road, Burts Hill, Deans Grove and Smugglers Lane became effective on 09/10/20 and speed limit signs were erected only a few days later. The Dorset Council plans of the changes can be found by following the links on our Highways page.
11/09/20 : Village Address Maps Our thanks are due to Stan Bielecki who has worked diligently to create three maps covering all our roads and houses. They will prove invaluable, not least for directing delivery drivers! Soon we will wonder how we managed without them. They can be found under the Maps menu item above or by following this link. Then they can be downloaded as PDF files, saved and printed.
29/08/20 : Reductions in speed limits Dorset Council has published a Draft Traffic Regulation Order detailing its intention to reduce speed limits on several local roads. This will be good news to most. Further details can be found on our Highways page and its link onwards to the relevant page on the Dorset Council website. Observations on the TRO can be made by the public before 11/09/20, either through the website or by letter.

21/03/20 : Open letter from Cllr Stefan Morawiec to Furzehill Residents Click here for Stefan's letter regarding the benefits of following the ColehillResilience Facebook page and/or checking regularly on the websites of Colehill and Holt Parish Councils for up-to-date information and announcements on their roles in handling the coronavirus epidemic.

14/03/20 : Coronavirus Support Please see our separate Support page for information on how to access local neighbourly support, village shop deliveries, and links to key government and local authority information.
19/02/20 : Neighbourhood Plan Neighbourhood planning is a relatively new way for a community to produce a plan with legal weight to help direct planning in its local area. It can cover such elements as: where homes shops and offices are built; what those buildings should look like; and which projects are granted planning permission. Whether Furzehill should attempt to produce its own neighbourhood plan or whether it should contribute to a plan by the whole of Colehill and/or Holt was a major topic of conversation at our recent AGM 2020. There is more information under the dedicated section of the planning page on this site. NB We would like your views on how (and whether) to proceeed. It would help greatly if you would complete our Neighbourhood Planning Questionnaire.
15/02/20 : Furzehill Fusiliers This group, organised by John Cardwell, meets winter and spring under the supervision of the Woodland Trust to remove non-indigenous species from Woodleaze Copse. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for future sorties, or you have a question, please complete the contact form and select the 'Furzehill Fusiliers' subject heading.
10/02/20 : First Aid / Basic Life Support (including CPR) Training The idea of a short (perhaps half-day) course was suggested at the AGM 2020. Acquiring and refreshing such skills is important to the community at large, and it is surprisingly enjoyable as a group activity. There may be a charge to cover the fee for an accredited instructor. If there is sufficient interest the committee will make the necessary arrangements. If you would like to attend, please complete the contact form and select the 'First Aid / BLS' subject heading.
10/02/20 : Subscriptions At our AGM 2020 it was decided to suspend the annual subscription until there is a community project that requires funding. In the meantime, it may be necessary to charge a little more to cover social events. Anyone wanting to make a voluntary subscription can do so by making a direct payment into our bank account (see contact page) and completing the contact form.
